Everything started with the meeting between the fashion designer Johanne Riss and the director Bavo Defurne (North Sea Texas). With his team, they already had pictured what kind of dresses they wanted for Bavo’s next film, Souvenir. In their ideal of glamour, they asked Johanne to design a sequin dress. But, because of her avant-garde mind, Johanne Riss went a step further in the idea of red carpet and sensuality. She designed a golden palms embroidered nude gown. Almost immediately, she gave the design its final touch by adding endless silk chiffons, as Isabelle Huppert had to dance for some scenes. The Souvenir team quickly understood that Johanne should only create the character’s stage costumes on to making the designer’s dresses even more remarkable.
